Eric Hughes is an national award-winning designer who has worked in a variety of commercial and residential settings for the last 24 years. Nominated as the USGBC West Michigan Chapter 2009-2011 Residential Green Building Advocate (RGBA), he works with LEED for Homes Providers and industry professionals locally and nationally to explain and promote the LEED for Homes program, identify green building leaders and provide feedback to the U.S. Green Building Council. He is the designer of West Michigan's first LEED for Homes "Platinum" project, and of the first LEED for Homes "Gold" project in Grand Traverse County. He designed the first LEED "Platinum" log home in the United States. He also was the designer for the 2007, 2008 & 2009 Michigan Energy Fair Show Homes. Among his many recent awards are the GreenBuilder Magazine "2009 Green Home of the Year Award," and the 2009 ICFA Sustainability Silver & Bronze Award & 2008 ICFA Sustainability Gold Award, awarded to the nation's top Residential or Commercial ICF project which maximizes the energy performance and minimizes the environmental footprint of a building. Just in the last five years alone he has garnered 19 national/regional awards and has been published in over 35 different magazine and news articles. He is in the process of studying for his LEED AP + Homes certification and going back to school to earn is bachelor's degree through Ferris State University\'s new Architecture and Sustainability bachelor degree program.

Owner of the newly formed Sustainable Homes Consultants, LLC a Sustainable /Green consulting firm that will help Architects, Builder, Designer and Homeowner navigate through the LEED for Homes certification, USGBC Regreen program and Green Built Michigan certification Building process.
